Cops: Woman set fire to house of friend who "unfriended" her on Facebook

I read an article on a women who set her friends house on fire because she was removed as a friend on Facebook. Facebook has taken over many peoples regular everyday life. People use Facebook to keep in contact with family and friends. This wasn’t the case for Jennifer Harris after she found out the hard way that Nikki Rasmussen didnt want to be her friend anymore when she was removed as a friend on facebook. The two got into an argument when Rasmussen didnt like something that Harris said online, so she removed her as a friend. Harris then went an set Rasumssen’s house on fire.

Some people have have such an addiction with Facebook that it takes them away from reality. Some people use Facebook for different reasons. Rasmussen and Harris have been friends for years the article said and their argument could have been settle if both parties talked about it. Instead Harris light her house on fire. 20 years ago this would be something so unheard of.

In my opinion of this matter is that Harris should have been able to realize why she was removed as a friend and civilly tried to ask Nikki why. Their is plenty of people that i am friends with in “real” life that i am not friends with on Facebook.

Facebook has become one of the most popular ways of communication with the invention of the Facebook chat is now an instant way one can communicate with one another on Facebook. Harris has now been placed on unpaid leave and her life has instantly changed and over what? Losing 1 friend on an online website.

  1. I read this story on the class Facebook page and I thought it was ridiculous. I wonder what this Jennifer Harris would do to a boyfriend or significant other left here? Hold the parents up for ransom? If a person on Facebook decided not to keep me on their friends list or even if a friend of mine off line didn’t want contact with me anymore, I wouldn’t act as if it was the end of the world, let alone burn that person’s house down. Not everyone is your best friend and not every friend in your life now is a friend for eternity. Being friends with someone does not include a lifetime contract with no opt out clause. What the hell is wrong with people like Jennifer Harris? Is she so detached from reality or does she have a case of the crazys? Probably a combination of the two mixed in with the fact that Harris has deep psychological issues that could not begin to understand. Facebook cannot stop people from being strange and wierd. It is the type of people that use Facebook and whatever happens on Facebook people take personally. If celebrities or public figures took everything the peanut gallery said personally, there would be widespread fires throughout the country. Someone assign Jennifer Harris to a psychologist, ASAP.

  2. I think, and would hope that there was some other underlying reason for this. It seems a little extreme for just defriending on facebook, but it could have just been the spark that lead to other reasons. However Im sure this and other situations are really exactlly what we read them as. This article really reminds me of the addiction to Facebook article. If you’re going to have this reaction to something on Facebook, that has to be considered an addiction right?
